The Road Trip
Say you were planning on taking a car trip that involved traveling thousands of miles. Maybe to Alaska or someplace like that. You would set down and map out the simplest route. You would mark out the highways and interstates that would get you there without worrying about all the little side roads and detours along the way, you would be only really interested in your destination. (I'm not talking about a pleasure trip here, you have a set amount of time to get there).
There is a lot of quibble in Christian circles about small things. What we should wear, kind of music should we listen to, when or if the rapture is going to take place, stuff like that. These are little "side roads" that can get you lost. The Apostle Paul said in 1 Cor. 2:2 "I am determined to know nothing among you but Christ and Him crucified". We are told quite plainly how to get from point A to point B.
I have an eager restless mind and I enjoy picking up nuggets of truth I find lying around. I am more inquisitive than most people, but I refuse to argue about incidentals. The hour is late, the sun is setting and we need to concentrate on getting to our destination. There isn't time to quibble over minor points of doctrine. Almost all Christian Churches teach that Christ is deity and that he came to earth to give His life to bring man back into fellowship with God. They teach that you must believe and through prayer accept the free gift of eternal life offered by our Creator. Then you live for him. It doesn't matter what Prophecy timeline you espouse or if you dance or whether or not you celebrate Christmas. These are sideroads, fights happen on the sideroads and if you are not careful you can get lost.
James 4:1 "From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members"?
Galatians 5:15
"But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another".
